Stedman - Shall I go in quick or slow?
These tips work for Stedman on all numbers of bells, and they work after calls as well, not just in the plain course.
From my trusty 1970 Diary!
If you arrive in 4-5 down without knowing whether to go in quick or slow, or knowing your course bell, note the bell you strike over at your first blow in fourths. If on leaving 4 -5 your first blow in thirds is over this bell, make thirds and go in slow.
Another way of working it out, from Anna Piechna
When you arrive at the back, notice who you do the 4-5 Up dodges with. When doing the Down dodge, if the first of your blows in 4ths is over that same bell, go in QUICK.
Remember: "Hit it quick, go in Quick"
